Job Announcement
Under general supervision of the Director of Maintenance, to be responsible for preventing the deterioration of surfaces through the performance of skilled painting work; to provide an optimum environment for teaching and learning through the appearance and serviceability of structures and equipment; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent of this class works without close supervision and is responsible and accountable for assigned projects and priorities. Latitude is given in the scheduling and selection of colors and materials to best preserve surfaces and maintain aesthetic values. Although duties are primarily those of a painter, this position is also available for other types of maintenance work as required. May supervise helpers. Incumbents may be required to perform standby alert during off duty hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for carrying out preventive maintenance programs to avoid malfunctions and replacements of doors, windows, equipment, and structures.
Cleans and repairs surfaces to be painted by using appropriate equipment and material.
Mixes colors, oils, or other ingredients to match, blend, and harmonize with specified colors and consistencies.
Uses brushes, rollers, and spraying equipment in applying paints, enamels, varnishes, lacquers, etc.
Erects and removes scaffolding and clean up after a job is completed.
Applies putty, spackling compounds, and other materials in preparation of surfaces for painting.
Requisitions materials as needed.
Participates in a respiratory protection program as required by the District.
QUALIFICATIONS
Modern methods, techniques, materials used to produce lasting surface protection and good appearance; characteristics of materials, including mixing and blending qualities; appropriate building and safety codes. Potential hazards involved with working with paint and related materials.
Ability to: Plan, lay out, and perform painting work; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Rig and work from ladders and scaffolding; operate and maintain spray equipment.
Ability to: Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; correctly demonstrate sufficient strength, mobility, and range of motion to arm lift 50 pounds and floor lift 50 pounds in an employee entrance evaluation.
Experience: Three years experience in the painting trade.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
License: Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Complete district training on Mandated Reporter, Covid 19, and Sexual Harassment
Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District. Demonstrate sufficient strength, mobility, and range of motion to arm lift 50 pounds and floor lift 50 pounds.
Significant Physical Abilities:
With or without the use of aids, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sufficient strength to lift non-ambulatory students, lift and move adaptive equipment, and physically restrain and control a student up to 200 pounds with assistance, sufficient body movement and mobility to demonstrate gross motor activities, climb in and out of cars, vans, and buses, to walk and run with students, climb well enough to go up and down stairs, to maneuver students into and out of vehicles, wheelchairs, and toilets, sufficient vision to read printed material, with or without aids, sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations with or without aids, ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, manual dexterity to write and use telephone and other business/office machines. The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, understanding, and following oral and written directions.

The District’s boundaries include the cities of Folsom and Rancho Cordova, both of which adjoin Highway 50, northeast of downtown Sacramento.
Folsom’s population of approximately 75,000, similar to Rancho Cordova’s population of approximately 72,000.
