Job Announcement Administrative Assistant I Job Description
Under the general direction of a Coordinator(s), perform a variety of responsible and difficult administrative, secretarial, and office support duties, requiring thorough knowledge of the assigned department, division, school site, or program, its procedures, and operational details; plan, coordinate, and organize office activities and coordinate flow of communications and information for the Coordinator(s).
Distinguishing Characteristics
Administrative Assistant I is the entry level classification in the series and typically reports to a department head or designee, and performs routine clerical and administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and maintaining basic office systems. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine administrative, secretarial, or clerical duties with a focus on supporting day-to-day operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Applicable laws, codes, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures
• Understanding of general office procedures, record-keeping, filing, and office management techniques
• Telephone techniques and etiquette; Business letter writing, editing, and proofreading techniques
• Basic mathematical skills; specific positions may require considerable statistical and arithmetical computations
• Basic clerical accounting including processing purchase orders, tracking budgets, and invoicing
• Methods of collecting, researching, and organizing data and information
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
• Oral and written communication skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
• Operation of a computer, assigned software, and office equipment
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
QUALIFICATIONS:
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Experience:
• Two (2) years of responsible and varied typing and clerical experience requiring some contact with the public.
• One (1) year experience in a public education setting is preferred.
Education:
• Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Within six (6) months of employment, acquire and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certificates.
• Typing Certificate of forty (40) words per minute(wpm).
Upon Conditional Offer of Employment:
DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check
TB Test within the last 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667)
Complete district Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment, etc.
In Person typing test with a minimum of 40 wpm.

District Boundaries and Population
The District’s boundaries include the cities of Folsom and Rancho Cordova, both of which adjoin Highway 50, northeast of downtown Sacramento.
Folsom’s population of approximately 75,000, similar to Rancho Cordova’s population of approximately 72,000. Both communities share characteristics of small towns with active parent groups, service organizations, and city councils.
